SFDA Hosts a lecture on Generic Drugs

On Monday 24th of March, 2008, The drug sector at the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) hosted a lecture about generic drugs. The lecture was presented by Dr. Sultan Ghani, the expert in quality assessment of generic drugs in Health Canada. The title of the lecture was (The Generic Drugs Program in Health Canada). Dr. Ghani showed the experience of Health Canada in the field of evaluation, regulation and registration of drugs.
Representatives from Ministry of Health and its specialized committees have attended the lecture along with the representatives of local drugs manufacturers. This has been held within the sector’s activities which aims to improve the current situation of generic drugs registration in the kingdom which will lead to insure the safety and effectiveness of these drugs. In addition, it will contribute in the decrease of these drugs costs by the boost of many generic drugs.
Moreover, Dr. Ghani had spent one week with the drug sector. This comes under standing corporation between the (SFDA) and the International Bank to review and evaluate what has been achieved by the (SFDA) in the field of drug registration.
