H.E. VP for Medical Devices and Products Sector, Dr. Saleh bin Suleiman Al Tayar emphasized that SFDA has tightened control on medical devices and products and that no medical device / product  will be allowed to enter the Kingdom unless it obtains a marketing authorization from SFDA, according to the stages of application specified by the SFDA according to the degree of  the particular medical device / product risk.
SFDA also requires registration of local and foreign factories interested to have representatives in the Kingdom, in addition that they must be certified and licensed by SFDA. Dr. Al Tayar confirmed that SFDA has released medical devices and products that worth over SR 18.5 billion while the destroyed or returned ones worth more than SR 215 million through POEs, while nearly 3.5 million medical devices/ products were destroyed  or returned during inspection tours conducted to suppliers and distributors due to reasons related to product safety, validity and others.

This came during SFDA participation in the  Arab Health Conference &  Exhibition -2014 held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with the participation of more than 3900 exhibitors from 63 countries around the world. SFDA participated  in the parade by presenting SFDA’s regulations and Conditions and by answering manufacturers, suppliers and distributors inquiries.
Dr. Al Tayar also pointed out that the presence of SFDA in this exhibition comes as a result of SFDA keenness to communicate with the private sector (manufacturers and suppliers) to inform them of SFDA’s Conditions and Requirements related to supply and distribution of medical devices and products and the regulations and requirements that must be met by the authorized representative of the foreign factory in kingdom.

Is worth mentioning that the Arab Health Conference & Exhibition included a number of workers in all aspects of the healthcare sector from all over the world, with the participation of a large number of health care practitioners, officials, agents, distributors and workers.
