Upon following up Nuclear Pollution Updates.. SFDA imposes further controls on Japanese Food & Feed Imports

Following the news about nuclear pollution of Japanese food products, and based on the news released by INFOSAN, Japanese Government and EU represented by RASFF; and UNFDA. SFDA imposed further controls and restrictions on these products to ensure the highest degree of safety and security of food & feed imports from Japan, as follows:

1. Impose stringent controls on food imports from Japan
2. Request importers to present certificates from health and safety authorities in Japan confirming that imported food & feed are within the allowed limits provided in the (Codex Alimentarius) specifications with regard to nuclear pollution
3. Ban food imports from polluted areas in Japan , Namely : Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Chiba (Asahi city, Katori city and Tago town) and any other areas that are not declared to be polluted by Japanese Government

SFDA would like to assure consumers that the Japanese food currently available in the local market is safe and free from nuclear pollution. SFDA will continue to follow up all news and updates with regard this matter.
