SFDA Applies Strict controls on Cosmetics Imports

SFDA has signed an agreement with Intertek International Limited, UK and SGS Société Générale de Surveillance S.A, Switzerland for assessment and verification of compliance of cosmetic products. The two companies will assess and verify compliance of cosmetic products that will be exported to the Kingdom’s markets, in accordance with the regulations, rules, specifications and conditions approved by SFDA. The two companies shall test or analyze any cosmetic product in an accredited international laboratory or laboratories, selected in agreement with SFDA.
The verification agreement was signed under the auspice of H.E. CEO of Saudi Food& Drug Authority, Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Kanhal yesterday, Monday 23/04/1432H at SFDA Head Office, in presence of the British and Swiss Commercial attaché’s
The agreement was signed with the two verification firms by H.E Vice President for Drug Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah Bawazir, who said that the two companies with which the agreement is signed have vast experience in verification and validation of cosmetics prepared for export to European Counties and other countries all over the world. The cosmetic products certificates submitted by cosmetics suppliers will be verified and checked by SFDA inspectors at the ports of entry and will analyze cosmetics shipments that may not comply with the approved Saudi Standards for cosmetic products.
It worth mentioning that SFDA strives, in line with its role of control, to prohibit import of harmful cosmetics through enforcement of more strict controls, by qualifying verification companies to ensure SFDA processes of cosmetics regulation, building the electronic system for cosmetic products reports and issuance of Cosmetic Products Regulations Bylaws as soon as Cosmetics Regulations are issued.
