SFDA Follows up News and Updates on Japanese Food Products polluted by Nuclear Radiation

In line with its efforts of monitoring and control of food products to ensure their safety and security ; and in view of its role of food control, SFDA is following up news and updates about the Japanese food products polluted by nuclear radiation due to radiation leakage from the Japanese nuclear reactors in Fukushima area, after being hit by the earthquake on 06/04/1432H (11/03/2011).
Official Japanese reports revealed that some foods that are produced in Japan, e.g. raw milk (produced in Fukushima province), green onions and spinach ( produced in Tbaraki province) are reported to be polluted by nuclear radiation.
In this context, SFDA would like to assure consumers that all food imports from Japan, prior to this accident, which are available in the local markets, are safe. SFDA is inspecting all foods imported from Japan after the date of this accident to ensure that they are safe. SFDA confirms that it will continue to follow up news and updates in this connection and communicate with the concerned international bodies and follow up information released about pollution of food by nuclear radiation, in Japan and neighboring countries.
