SFDA Warns about Potable Drinking Water Products

2011-07-20

FDA has recently collected samples of a number of potable drinking water which are locally produced, from different production dates , to determine whether they comply with the GCC Standard Specifications No. (1025/2009- Potable Drinking Water) which specified the maximum allowed limit of Bromate at (10ppm). The results of laboratory analysis of the water samples revealed that these samples exceeded the maximum allowed limits, as follows:
1. Jibal Mana’a Water, produced by Jibal Mana’a Factory
2. Yanbu Al Aflaj Water, produced by Yanbu Al Aflaj Factory
3. Hail Water, produced by Hail Health Water Factory

Therefore, SFDA warns consumers to avoid using these water products and dispose of any stock they may have at hand. Moreover, SFDA has addressed the respective authorities in order to take the necessary action to force these factories to recall their products from the market and stop production until they comply with the maximum allowed limits of Bromate as specified in the GCC Standard Specifications No. (1025/2009- Potable Drinking Water) referred to above.
SFDA will continue to check all potable water plants and monitor all potable water products in the local market and necessary actions will be taken against violating factories.
Wishing you good health.
