SFDA Attends WTO Committee Meeting on Phytosanitary Measures

The Food Sector of the SFDA, attended the 39th meeting of the committee on" Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS)". The meeting was held in William Robert Center in Geneva during the period 27-28 June, 2007.

Along with Saudi delegates from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), Prof. Ibrahim Al Mohizea, VP of Food Affairs, participated in the meeting to familiarize with the nature and objectives of SPS committee of WTO. Prof. Al Mohizea took the opportunity to show a presentation about the inauguration of the SFDA in which he shed some lights on the mission and vision of the authority.

Among the issues addressed in the agenda were the selection of a chairperson, members activities, specific trade concerns, operation of transparency provisions, implementation of special and deferential treatment, equivalence, pest and disease-free areas, technical assistance and cooperation, as well as issues related to special and commercial standards and specifications.
