SFDA Inspected 600 Food Establishments and Seized 176000 kilogram of Violated Food Stuff

SFDA inspected over 600 Food Establishments including food factories and major food warehouses and distribution centers kingdom wide. This was in view of His Excellency the Chief Executive Officer of SFDA, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Almishal exceptional plan for inspection of factories and warehouses of highly consumed foods during the month of Ramadan in all districts to ensure their conformity with health requirements. 

During these inspection tours SFDA inspectors captured more than 176 tons (176,000 kg) of expired or improperly stored foods or foods with manipulated the expiry date in a number of organizations and warehouses. 

Riyadh marked the highest quantity of violated foods wherein the inspectors captured more than 113 ton (113000kg) of improperly stored rice with cumulated dust and wandering insects and rodents in the warehouse which lacks many basic health requirements. 

Inspectors also found large quantities of expired materials in a warehouse for the storage of food in Tabuk, as they found more than 2.5 ton (2500 kg) of material showing signs of damage due to poor storage, in addition to the accumulation of food on the floor. 

In Zulfi province, the inspectors captured around 27.5 ton (27,520 kg) of dates paste intended for use in sweets that are frequently consumed in Ramadan. It was detected that these dates are of unknown origin and showed signs of decay, 

In Al-Kharj province, inspectors captured 21 tons ( 21,000 kg ) of chicken fillet without bone , and over  8 tons ( 8,000 kg ) of chicken breast prepared to grounding stored at high temperatures and began to show signs of decay. 

In Jeddah province, inspectors captured more than half ton (550 kg) of expired chicken meat (Breast - Nuggets) with manipulated expiry dates. 

The inspection teams revealed that more than 3,700 kilograms of expired foods were found in warehouses in Alkhomra district of Jeddah. They also found around 1522 kg of expired dates packed in 435 packets ready for distribution to Iftar projects, in addition to 210 kg of dates without labeling. The seizures also included 1950 kg of frozen roasted eggplant that is not valid for human consumption and olive oil showing signs of decay as well as expired Salmon fish. 

SFDA will proceed with the necessary actions against the violating organizations, i.e., enforce commercial counterfeit regulations, conduct necessary investigations to refer the cases to the respective authorities and damage the violating products. 

SFDA, has developed an extraordinary plan to inspect food factories and warehouses of frequently consumed foods during the month of Ramadan in all regions, especially in major cities. 

The plan included, numerating factories and warehouses of food based on organizations data base within SFDA and assignment of 100 field inspectors to focus on them.. 

According to the plan, which came into force since the beginning of the month of Shaban, the inspection is done during official working hours and evening time during which violations multiply.  The work according to this plan will continue until the end of the month of Ramadan.
