The Saudi FDA Joins Global Regulators at 27th International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF) in Tokyo

The Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), H.E. Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, led the SFDA’s delegation at the 27th Management Committee Meeting of the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF) in Tokyo, Japan, from March 10-14, 2024.
This participation follows the SFDA's recent membership in the IMDRF in September 2023, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing its international and regional leadership in medical device regulation.
The IMDRF meeting gathered regulatory bodies from member states to discuss the latest advancements in medical device monitoring and regulation. During the Meeting, the SFDA highlighted Saudi Arabia's advanced regulatory capabilities and its commitment to international best practices in medical device regulation. The delegation also emphasized its support for local industry and innovation in this sector.
Forum sessions covered strategic initiatives, including the IMDRF's 2026-2030 strategy, capacity development programs for member states, and related challenges and solutions. Participants also reviewed the latest IMDRF guidelines.
The SFDA's participation underscores its commitment to enhancing its leadership in medical device regulation and leveraging global expertise to develop robust regulatory frameworks. The Authority also aims to build strategic partnerships with international regulatory bodies and organizations.
