Saudi Food and Drug Authority would like to alert all consumers from buying medical devices and product through the internet which do not have SFDA marketing authorization , where a website was found to sell home use test kits for HIV AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD).
SFDA has become aware through the international regulatory resources, that there are websites that sells Home-Use HIV and other STDs Test Kits which do not have SFDA marketing authorization. These products are used with urine, saliva and blood samples. These products may not be safe or effective and might provide false test results where those products have not been evaluated by neither SFDA nor other international regulatory authorities.
Saudi Food and Drug Authority encourages all consumers to adhere to the following precautions when buying any medical devices on the Internet:
- Do not buy medical devices through online websites which do not have SFDA marketing authorization
- Avoid websites that use “a new treatment” or “miracle cure” to market their products.
- Avoid websites that claim that their products are compatible with regulatory authorities requirements.
- Report any suspicious commercial sites that sells medical products without holding SFDA marketing authorization.
