SFDA Held up to22 workshops to train food supply chain representatives, companies and customs agents on electronic registration of food products.

"Imported food registration" program, can make the consumer to search for products he uses through its database, to know its characteristics, and country of origin and related warnings, if any.

SFDA stated that it conducted a study on some  of the plastic packing and wrapping materials available in the local markets including  poly citrine foam ‘crock’ cups with code , used in making coffee and tea cups to verify whether they comply with the respective specifications.

SFDA confirmed that the two colours E129 & E110 are allowed to be used in food products according to the GSO 23 Saudi/GCC Regulations: ‘Coloured materials used in food stuff’, pointing out that the international regulations such as CODEX, FDA and EU provided allowance of using these colours in food products.

SFDA inspectors captured  huge quantities of expired dates  and other quantities of rotting dates in a dates products factory in Makkah, in addition to poor cleaning  of the factory warehouses and dead rats found therein.

SFDA captured over 258 thousand contaminated juice packs in a factory in Riyadh city, which were  ready for distribution to the market.

In a statement, SFDA clarified that its inspection teams held 285479 packs of juice and juice drinks (Orange,   Straw berry and Lemon) and Cola in one of the big juice factories in the second industrial city after confirming that they are contaminated with microbes and are not suitable for human consumption

SFDA inspectors detected 41 tons of expired meat and fish in a warehouse in Dammam. In a statement, SFDA declared that its inspectors captured a warehouse that stored expired imported meat in Al Khalidiya 2 Section in Dammam, out of this quantity is 38 tons of frozen red and white meat and 3 tons of frozen fish and shrimps, pointing out that part of this meat was expired before more than one year and is prepared for distribution to the local market.
