SFDA Collects Samples of Cadbury products to ensure that they are free from porcine DNA

SFDA revealed that it has collected samples of Cadbury products, available in the Saudi market, to test and analyze them in its laboratories in order to make sure that they are free from porcine DNA, after traces of this substance were detected in some Cadbury products manufactured in Malaysia.
The periodical Halal Products Conformity tests, conducted by the Malaysian Ministry of Health, showed that these products contain traces of this substance in two batches of Cadbury Chocolates as follows:
1. Cadbury Cow Milk with Hazelnut, Lot No. M01H12200813 with expiry date on 13/11/2014
2. Cadbury Cow Milk with roasted Almonds, Lot No. N01R11221013 with expiry date on 15/1/2015
SFDA initiated urgent precautionary actions, by collecting samples of those products that proved to have porcine DNA, with different lot numbers and produced in different countries, to subject them to the necessary tests and analysis to make sure that they are free from porcine DNA. SFDA did not find any traces of porcine DNA in the products available in the Saudi market.
According to H.E. SFDA Vice President for Food Sector, Dr. Salah Al Miman: “The types of Cadbury products registered in SFDA do not include any of Cadbury products that are manufactured in Malaysia. The types available in the Saudi market are imported from other counties e.g., Egypt and U.K.
Dr. Al Miman further emphasized:” SFDA shall take the necessary arrangements if the laboratory tests proved that the samples contain any traces of porcine DNA” and further requested anyone who finds any of the announced lot numbers recalled from the Malaysian markets, , in the local market, shall immediately communicate with SFDA.
