In Contribution to “Commercial Counterfeit & Imitation Forum”: SFDA Exhibited Samples of Contaminated Food and Fake Medical Devices and Products

Saudi FDA participated in the 2nd. Arab Forum for Consumer Protection against Commercial Counterfeit & Imitation, organized by Saudi Customs Department. This participation comes in view of the coordination and cooperation between SFDA and Customs Department in order to eliminate the adverse impacts of commercial counterfeit on consumers and impact of fake products on the country and itscitizens.In contribution to this Forum, Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Kanhal, CEO of the Saudi Food & Drug Authority, chaired one of the Forum’s Sessions entitled: “ Role of Official Authorities Involved in Combating Commercial Counterfeit & Imitation”. SFDA also participated in the exhibition associated with this Forum through exhibiting samples of food , drug and medical products that are harmful to the health and safety of the citizens.
Dr. Al Kanhal showed to H.E. Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Khowitir, State Minister, Member of the Council of Ministers & Acting Minister of Finance, who inaugurated the Forum & Exhibition, samples of contaminated food, weight-reducing drugs, harmful cosmetic powders, a number of herbal drugs and products that have deceptive claims and several types of fake medical devices and products. He also reviewed Customs Clearance System for Medical Devices, Medical Devices Registration System, the National Center for Medical Devices Reports and the Kingdom’s accession to the Global Harmonization Organization
Dr. Al Kanhal hoped that the Forum will achieve its mission of consumer awareness and assurance of safety of Saudi Imports by (10/10). He also valued the role of Saudi Customs Department and the Public & Private Sectors in prevention of flow of fake and imitated goods into the Kingdom, which have severe damage to the health and safety of human beings and countries’ economies.
