Renewing the Saudi Arabia’s Chairmanship of the GHWP

Saudi Arabia has been elected at the chair of the Global Harmonization Working Party (GHWP) of Medical Devices until 2021.


The chairmanship is renewed for the fourth year in a raw, under the Executive Vice Executive President for Medical Devices at Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Eng. Ali Al-Dalaan.
 
It comes as a continuation of the pioneering role that the Kingdom plays, represented by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority during its chairmanship of the organization, in the fields of legislation and regulations for medical devices.

This had a pivotal impact in creating an environment of harmonization and convergence many countries of the world.

GHWP had a role during the coronavirus pandemic ( COVID-19), as the Kingdom led coordination between the scientific and technical work groups at various  international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), to work on confronting the pandemic

Moreover, It sponsored the international meeting for GHWP Leaders, under the patronage of the CEO of the SFDA Dr. Hisham bin Saad Al-Jadhey, on the fringe of the Kingdom presidency of the G20 summit. 

The Global Harmonization Working Party (GHWP) of Medical Devices includes 31 regulatory bodies headed by Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority.   

The Organization is based on Hong Kong- and aiming to develop regulations and legislation of medical devices through 9 scientific and technical work groups
