During a field visit to the Madinah region, H.E. Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), inspected several factories and warehouses specializing in the preparation, processing, and storage of meals for pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques. The visit is part of the SFDA's intensive preparations for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

Aljadhey, conducted a field visit to inspect the readiness of the Authority's monitoring system at food factories and warehouses in Makkah region to ensure food safety standards are met in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan. 

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has granted PTC Therapeutics orphan drug designation to Sephience (sepiapterin), which is indicated for the treatment of hyperphenylalaninaemia (HPA) in patients with phenylketonuria (PKU).

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Food Industries Polytechnic (FIP) to strengthen collaboration in the training and qualification of national cadres, focusing on building specialized human capital in fields shared by both organizations.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), has further solidified its international scientific standing by officially joining the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA).

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) recorded significant growth in the number of licensed factories and warehouses during 2025, achieving a 18% increase compared to 2024. This growth reflects the ongoing development of the regulatory environment, the empowerment of the industrial sector, and the expansion of investment support within the SFDA’s scope of work.

According to official statistics, the total number of licensed facilities reached 9,155 in 2025, up from 7,750 in 2024.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) successfully concluded its international Codex Alimentarius Workshop, held at its headquarters in Riyadh from January 20–22, under the theme “One Codex: Together We Learn, Together We Lead.”

The workshop featured the participation of the Chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) and his Vice-Chairs, Codex regional coordinators, the Codex Secretariat, and representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

A delegation from the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), headed by its Chairperson, Allan Azegele, visited the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA)’s Interactive Awareness Center. The visit took place during the delegation’s trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of an international workshop held by SFDA in Riyadh.

Held from January 20 to 22, 2026, under the theme “one Codex: Together We Learn, Together We Lead,” the event brings together the world’s foremost experts in food safety and regulation.
