Conclusion of Codex Coordinating Committee for Near East Meeting in Rome

The eleventh meeting of the Codex Coordinating Committee for the Near East (CCNE11), held at FAO headquarters on 18-22 September 2023, in Rome and chaired by Saudi Arabia, represented by the SFDA, has issued a number of recommendations, most notably Saudi Arabia's assuming the presidency of two electronic working groups and stressing the importance of sharing the SFDA’s experience in Healthy Food Strategy (HFS) with the member states.

Saudi Arabia Hosts Codex Coordinating Committee for Near East (CCNE11) Meeting in Rome

2023-09-18

The Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA) hosts the eleventh meeting of the Codex Coordinating Committee for the Near East (CCNE) on 18–22 September 2023, at FAO headquarters in Rome.

During the meeting, SFDA will review the leading experience of Saudi Arabia with the Healthy Food Strategy (HFS) as a key topic aiming to discuss the opportunities for strengthening the role of regional countries in the transformation towards healthy and sustainable food systems.

There are many Published studies. In addition, SFDA have approved scientific papers internally this year. Currently, they are under publishing process in different journals. Answer

The technical regulation SFDA.FD 2483 “Trans Fatty Acids” has prohibited the use of partially hydrogenated fats in the food industry.

Is it allowed to add food ingredients to Honey?


Answer

The Technical Regulation SFDA.FD 147 “Honey” stated that adding food ingredients to honey is prohibited.

Is it possible to remove the nutritional facts on the food product label (a product with only one ingredient)?


Answer

The Saudi Technical Regulation SFDA.FD/GSO 2233 “Requirements of nutritional labeling” stated in Item No. 5/2/1 that “food products consisting of one food ingredient such as rice, tea, coffee or sugar” are excluded from the application of the regulation.

The technical regulation SFDA.FD/GSO 9 “Labeling of Prepackaged Food Stuffs” has stated “Labelling and adjoining explanatory statements shall be in Arabic and, where another language is used, it shall be alongside the Arabic ,All the information provided in another language shall be identical with those written in Arabic”
