The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising healthcare professionals and consumers that filling U.S. prescriptions abroad may give patients the wrong active ingredient for treating their health condition.

Ferring Pharmaceuticals, in collaboration with Health Canada, the Canadian counterpart to the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), inform health care professionals that all intranasal formulations of Desmopressin including Desmopressin Acetate Nasal(DDAVP) Spray & Desmopressin acetate Rhinyle Solution (DDAVP) are no longer indicated for the treatment of Primary Nocturnal Enuresis (PNE) due to an increased risk of hyponatremia with the intranasal formulations.

Saliva is the source of calcium for supragingival dental calculus formation. The aim of this preliminary study was to evaluate the possible effects of long-term calcium and vitamin D supplementation with or without alendronate administration on salivary electrolyte concentrations and supragingival calculus formation in osteoporotic women.

Background: Three warnings of serious adverse events associated with the use of atypical antipsychotic drugs among elderly patients with dementia were sent to health care professionals in Canada.  The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will require the manufacturers of antiepileptic drugs to add a warning to their labeling indicating that use of the drugs increases risk for suicidal thoughts and behaviors, according to an FDA Alert issued December 16.
