SFDA Participated in the Second Global Conference of Medical Devices & Products Control Executives- Sydney

KSA, represented by Saudi Food & Drug Authority, participated in the Second Global Conference for Medical Devices & Products Control Executives, Sydney, Australia during the period 25-27 September 2012. The conference included in its membership GHTF founding states viz USA, Canada, EU, Australia and Japan, in addition to Brazil. World Health Organization participated in this conference as an Observer.

The Kingdom, represented by Saudi Food & Drug Authority, participated in this conference as a member of the forum and Head of the Asian Harmonization Working Party (AHWP) which includes 23 countries from Asia, Africa & South America among which are China, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and Chili in addition to KSA, UAE, Jordan & Yemen from the Arab World.

The purpose of the forum is to realize harmonization of control of medical devices and products  through established standard specifications and safety & quality criteria and coding system in order to ensure medical devices & products manufacturers’ conformance with quality standards and come up with standard coding system for medical devices and products to be adopted by all member states for easy identification of technical faults of medical devices that may expose patients or users to risks and to guarantee taking the necessary proactive and  precautionary action.

 The forum strives to reinforce medical devices & products reporting system for easy dissemination of  safety reports between member states. It worth mentioning  that KSA is a member of this global center.

Dr. Saleh S. Al Tayar, SFDA Vice President for Medical Devices & Products and Head of AHWP for Control of Medical Devices & Products, emphasized that SFDA participation in this conference comes to cope with the leading role of the Kingdom in all fields and the international position realized by SFDA under the umbrella of the support provided by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince, Chairman of SFDA Board.
