SFDA Sponsors Fake Drugs Seminar at Chamber of Commerce

 H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Kanhal, CEO of SFDA, sponsored Tuesday,13 Moharram 1434H (27 Nov. 2012) Fake Drugs Seminar, organized by the Medical Commission of the Chamber of Commerce in Riyadh. The purpose of the seminar was to focus on several issues related to this type of activity and its impact  on the health and national economy. Besides, the seminar focused on the damages caused by this phenomenon and finding the  appropriate solution to overcome this problem via the variouw available means of combating by the concerned entities.

During the opening of the seminar,  Dr Al Kanhal called for collaboration of government and businessmen efforts in order to eliminate this phenomenon that  cost the community huge financial and individual loss. He added that SFDA  is in the process of implementation of Fake Drugs Regulation and penalties therein, as soon as soon as it is approved by the Council of Ministers, including imprisonment, in order to eliminate this dangerous phenomenon.

It worth mentioning that the seminar included three sessions that addressed  many dimensions and issues where  important papers were presented including: (Pharmaceutical Counterfeit; A Global Perspective), by Dr. Yaquop Haddad, “ The Role of Customs in Combating Pharmaceutical Counterfeit”, by Dr. Saleh bin Manei AlKhilaiwi, General Manager of Customs Department. The Ministry of Health participated with a paper entitled: “Ministry of Health Role in Combating Drug Counterfeit”, by Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Dahaas, Executive Director for Surveillance and Enforcement, in addition to a paper entitled, “ The Role of Ministry of Commerce in Commercial Counterfeit, in general and Commercial Counterfeit Regulation”, by Mr. Fahad Al Hazily, while the third paper addressed Pharmaceutical Counterfeit; A local Perspective), by Mr. Mohammed Jummah (Kadasah Office)

In the third session chaired by Dr. Saleh Bawazir, Vice President for Drug Sector, Dr. Keven Moor presented the results of Drug Counterfeit in the Kingdom, in addition to speakers’ discussion and recommendations.
