FDA is announcing that Novartis Pharmaceuticals has agreed to FDA’s request that they voluntarily discontinue marketing and sales of Zelnorm (tegaserod maleate). FDA’s request was based on newly available information of an increased risk of serious cardiovascular adverse events, including myocardial infarction (heart attack), unstable angina (chest pain), and stroke, associated with use of the drug. Based on this new information, FDA has concluded that the overall risk versus benefit profile for the drug is unfavorable for continued marketing.
A delegation team from drug and technical information sectors visited the Malaysian National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau which is known as (NPCB), from the First of April to the fourth of April 2007.This visit is based on the strategy of the authority to study systems and experiences of other Authorities.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the Merck asthma and allergy drug Singulair (montelukast sodium) for people aged 15 and older who experience asthma symptoms during exercise.
Symptoms of the condition, medically known as exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, include shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing and chest tightness.
قام قطاع الدواء بالهيئة العامة للغذاء والدواء بإطلاق برنامج التثقيف الدوائي والذي يهدف إلى التعريف بالهيئة وتوعية المستهلك ببعض القضايا التي تتعلق بالأدوية و أنواعها المختلفة سواء العشبية أو الكيمائية ودور الهيئة في حماية المجتمع. وكخطوة أولى فقد تم طباعة وتوزيع أكثر من 6 ملايين مطوية و 200 ألف ملصق على المستشفيات والمراكز الصحية، كما تم توزيع جزء منها على الصيدليات في مدينة الرياض و الدمام وجده.
كثر الحديث عن مأمونية دواء الروزي قليتازون ( rosiglitazone ) والمعروف تجاريا باسم افانديـا ( Avandia ) ويستخدم لعلاج السكر من النوع الثاني بعد نشر مجلة نيو انجلاند الطبية ( (New England Journal of Medicine الشهيرة لنتائج التحليل الكلي الشامل ( Meta-analysis ) لاثنين وأربعين دراسة منها اثنتان طويلتا الأمد وكانت نتائجها تفيد بتسبب الدواء بزيادة خطورة الإصابة باحتشاء القلب والموت بسبب مشاكل القلب والأوعية الدموية والزخم ا
قامت هيئة الصحة الكندية بسحب دواء ين من السوق من ذوات الاسم العلمي ( Valproic Acid ) واللـــذان يستخدمــان لعلاج نوبـات الصرع وهمــــــــا Depakene 500 mg , Ratio-valproic 500 mg ونصحت المرضى الذين يستخدمون أي من هذين الدوائين بأخذ الحيطة والحذر من إمكانية عدم احتوائهما على جرعة كاملة من المادة الفعالة مما ينتج عنه علاج غير كاف لنوبات الصرع.
